Record-breaking heat in June hits nearly 40-degrees

It’s a hot start to summer for the Waterloo Region.

The E.D. Soulis Weather Station at the University of Waterloo is out with its June weather recap, and for the seventh month in a row, Waterloo Region has seen warmer than average temperatures.

The sweltering days during that six-day heat wave contributed to the hot-statistics last month.

The hottest it got was 33.9 C, the coolest was 7.9 C.

Precipitation wise, the weather station at the University of Waterloo said there were a few storms, but nothing significant, with rain totals only slightly above average.

As far as July is concerned, meteorologists with Environment Canada expect the warm trend to continue.

The weather authority is keeping a keen eye on how much rain we get and whether or not smoke advisories from wildfires will once again be a problem this summer.
