Former stray dog finds new home after being with Humane Society for over nine months

A stray dog that found its way to the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth has found her forever home.

Hazel was brought into the Kitchener location in September and was found to be underweight. She was put on a feeding plan and was placed in a foster home in January. After spending 277 days, just over nine months, with the shelter, Hazel got the news that she had been adopted.

“We were thrilled that she was adopted last Friday,” said Victoria Baby, the CEO of the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth. “I guess one of the really great things is we were very excited as a team at the Humane Society to see her finally find her forever home.”

In an Instagram post on Thursday, staff at the local humane society can be seen giving Hazel a final send-off. Baby said that the staff can be very attached to the animals that come in and the shelter could not do what they do without the support of the community.

“When they see a successful story, we all come celebrate together,” said Baby. “It’s a win-win if you adopt from us.”

Currently, the shelter has multiple dogs available ranging from two months to six years old.
