17-year-old from Waterloo arrested in hate-motivated assault on ION train

Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest after a hate-motivated assault.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on an ION train travelling between Kitchener and Waterloo.

According to police at the time of the assault the victim was riding the train wearing a Pride shirt.

An unknown man approached him and began to verbally assault him by making berating, racial, and derogatory comments.

The suspect became more heated throughout the interaction and proceeded to assault the victim.

As a result of the a police investigation a 17-year-old Waterloo man has been arrested and charged with assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 12th.
