KYAC Youth Awards handed out Wednesday night

It was a night of celebration for young people in the community.
The Victoria Park Pavilion was packed with around 100 influential youth and their families, all in attendance for the 2024 Kitchener Youth Action Council (KYAC) Youth Awards.
The awards highlight the amazing work of those aged 14-24, working to make Waterloo Region a better place.
“Kitchener youth are doing remarkable things in our community,” Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said in a release. “I’m confident these young leaders will continue to be innovators, community builders and change-makers for Kitchener.”
The 12 award categories covered work in arts and culture, leadership, sports and recreation, unity in diversity, and social justice.
Over 50 youth were nominated.
The winners include:
- Arts & Culture: Twisha Pate
- Community Contribution: Kaden Pitcher
- Entrepreneurship: Elaine Xiao
- Environment: Brooke McFee
- Leadership: Anthony Nguyen
- Personal Triumph: Spencer Jasmins
- Service & Caregiving: Marisa DeLuca
- Social Justice & Action: Abdullah Rehman
- Sports & Recreation: Anthony Kostin
- Unity in Diversity: Marmawit Getachew
- Group Award: Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery Youth Council
- Youth Ally: Maria Akhtarr
