Police arrest five impaired drivers in just five hours

A flurry of arrests in Waterloo Region as police find five impaired drivers in just under five hours on Friday night.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, they responded to reports of an impaired driver in Cambridge at a retail store at around 7:20 p.m. 

A 63-year-old man attempted to flee on foot and assaulted an officer. Police then deployed a conducted energy weapon on the man and made the arrest. 

Later around midnight, officers responded to reports of a BMW that struck two unoccupied vehicles in Kitchener in the Ingleside Dr. and Dalegrove Rd. area. 

Police located the driver, a 36-year-old Kitchener man, and transported him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested and charged with impaired driving-related offences.

In total, 14 charges for impaired-related offences were laid in the late evening and overnight last night.
