City of Waterloo approves $200K donation for local humane society

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth is getting a $200,000 boost from the City of Waterloo.

Waterloo councillors unanimously approved the funding request at a meeting held on Monday.

The money will flow from council’s Community Priority and Contingency Reserve over the next three years.

Sandy Little is executive officer to the city’s CAO and told council the humane society doesn’t just help pets.

“They also play an integral role with providing outreach services to vulnerable individuals and social service partners to help pet owners in crisis with emergency food, resources, and veterinary care,” explained Little.

Little said the funding will help the local humane society expand its services to meet the community’s growing needs and construct a new building on its existing property on Riverbend Drive in Kitchener.
