Police issue warning after string of residential break-ins in Waterloo Region

Police have issued a warning to the public after a recent string of residential break-ins in Waterloo Region.

Waterloo Regional Police were notified about three separate break-and-enters at homes between Mar. 1 and Mar. 10.

In each incident, suspects entered residences by damaging glass doors. Once inside, they stole jewellery and cash.

Police said the homeowners in each incident were away on vacation at the time of the break-ins.

Police are investigating each break-in separately, and not as connected occurrences.

They happened in the Erinbrook Drive and Tillsley Drive area of Kitchener, Aberdeen Road and Claremont Avenue area of Kitchener, and Burnett Avenue and Country Club Drive area of Cambridge.

Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to contact investigators.

Police also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood immediately, and offered tips for homeowners who are headed out of town — including for March Break.

Police said residents should avoid posting on social media that their family will be travelling and don’t include any information about the length of the trip.

If you can, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home and even consider getting them to grab your mail so there’s no evidence it’s piling up.

Police also recommended cameras and outdoor lighting for home security, especially if you’ll be away for an extended period of time.
