Second-degree murder charge laid in Cambridge homicide

Waterloo Regional Police said Tuesday that a 57-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a woman in Cambridge last Thursday.

Thursday night around 9:30 p.m., a 61-year-old woman was found dead in a home on Fletcher Circle in the Silver Heights neighbourhood.

Police had previously indicated they were called to the area for a well-being check.

A 57-year-old man, also in the home, was arrested that night.

Police confirmed that a second-degree murder charge had been laid.

The incident marks the second homicide in Waterloo Region this year alongside a shooting in Kitchener that same day, claiming the life of a 28-year-old man.
