Regional staff to present design study of revamped intersection in Cambridge

A design study will be presented to regional councillors on Thursday that will look to improve pedestrian safety near the intersection of Saginaw Parkway, Franklin Boulevard and Elgin Street in Cambridge.

The presentation includes three alternative designs, with the preferred one adding three roundabouts, two on Saginaw Parkway and one on Can-Amera Parkway and an underpass under Franklin Boulevard.

The path would go from St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School to the plaza on Franklin Boulevard. The local high school has around 1,800 students enrolled.

The region said around 1,600 people a day cross Franklin Blvd, with 800 recorded during the peak hour. The presentation said it would allow for direct access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Next steps would be a public meeting in March.

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 5 p.m. The presentation of the study can be found here.
