Rangers sign left-shot defenceman, will make debut in Barrie

The Kitchener Rangers have announced the signing of free agent defenceman Max Dirracolo.

The 17-year-old left-shot defenceman will make his debut Saturday in his hometown of Barrie. Dirracolo will wear number 25 for the Rangers. He stands 6’4 and 216 lbs.

“We would like to welcome Max to our organization,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie in a release. “He is a big, physical defenceman that has lots of potential to be a really solid OHL defender. We take pride in trying to find free agent players who have been passed over and we are excited to have Max join the likes of players like Kyle Gentles, Arber Xhekaj, Jonathan Yantsis and Adrian Misaljevic as recent free agent signings who have played for our club.”

Dirracolo has been playing with the Toronto Patriots in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). He has recorded eight assists in 24 games played in the 2023-24 season. He has also registered 35 penalty minutes (PIM’s).

According to the Rangers organization, Dirracolo becomes the first free agent signing since Dec. 2021 when they signed Adrian Misaljevic to a contract.

The Rangers are coming off a loss Friday night to the Soo Greyhounds.
