Three encampment fires in six days in Waterloo Region

For the third time in less than a week, a fire was reported at a local encampment.

The latest incident happened Thursday, Nov. 30 just after 7 a.m. in the Weber Street and Victoria Street area of Kitchener, near the back of the paramedics station.

The fire at the small encampment was put out by fire crews and the cause hadn’t been determined as of 1 p.m.

No one was hurt and The City of Kitchener said security staff were installing fencing around the site because of the damage.

That fire happened across the street from the larger encampment at 100 Victoria Street, where a fire broke out Saturday morning.

There were no injuries in that fire and the cause was believed to be related to careless cooking.

There was also an encampment fire reported Wednesday around noon in Cambridge, in a wooded area south of the 401 and near Hespeler Road.

That fire involved propane BBQ tanks, some of which exploded. Despite the blast, no injuries were reported.
