By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Police have upgraded charges against a local youth in connection with a shooting incident in Woolwich this past spring.

Police were called to a residence in the Township Road 50 and Letson Drive area on Mar. 31 after reports an 86-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound.

Investigators then arrested a male youth, alleging he had fired the gun toward the home.

Initially, the youth was charged with offences including careless use of a firearm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

In an update released Oct. 6, police said the senior victim in the incident died as a result of the gunshot injuries in June.

As a result, the investigation has been classified as a homicide.

The youth is now facing an upgraded charge of criminal negligence causing death.
