Dumfries Avenue to go under traffic calming review, city staff say area is top priority

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Speeding is a hot topic in our community and one area in particular has caught the eye of Kitchener City Staff.

Dumfries Avenue between Stirling Avenue North and Edna Street in Kitchener has been ranked as a top problem area on a traffic calming priority list.

Councillors Monday night approving a traffic calming review of the area between the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium and Frederick Mall.

That project is set to ring in around $72,500, for the planning, design and execution of the project.

Some residents in the area spoke with CityNews Kitchener, noting many motorists don’t take into account the children playing in the neighbourhood.

They also say they have seen young drivers “showing off” or “stunt driving.”

City Staff say the majority of motorists through that area have been clocked going nearly 60 km/hr, well over the posted 40 km/hr limit.

Over the past three years, Regional Police have responded to ten collisions along that stretch of road.
