It’s been a long time coming but, Cambridge city councillors will be deciding Tuesday night whether or not to move forward with the next step of a hotly contested recreation complex.
In May, council approved the budget for the complex sitting just shy of $108-million. Nearly double what initial projections were at the projects onset in 2015.
At Tuesday’s meeting, councillors will be presented with artist renditions and digitally generated images of the schematic design for the complex.
The design includes plans to meet additions requested by councillors including, wider running track lanes, dedicated universal washrooms and on site security.

If approved, the project will move on to the detailed design phase, a detailed cost analysis will be undertaken and the preparing of contract drawings.
Assuming there are no delays, shovels are expected to break ground next summer in July of 2024.
Construction is expected to take between 24 and 27 months with a completion date around September of 2026.
According to planning documents, the complex will be built in Southeast Galt along Wesley Boulevard near Dundas Street.
Cambridge City Council will make the decision to approve the schematic design at Tuesday’s meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
