Students return to local university campuses and begin moving into residences

As the summer comes to a close, university students have begun moving into residences.

All three university campuses will begin to see the majority of students moving in starting today. The University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University will begin to move students in today.

Pat Kelly, the acting director for Housing Student Services at the University of Guelph, told CityNews his team is excited to see students come to residences and expected to see just under 5,000 move in over the next two days.

“We’re all ready for the students to come in,” said Kelly. “This is really the university’s focus is to welcome our new students over the next few days.”

The University of Waterloo began moving in students on Thursday. Heather Lang, the assistant director of Housing Occupancy and Marketing Services, said just under 6,000 students are expected to move into their 14 residences. The busiest days are expected on Saturday and Sunday.

“We do have students book move in appointments with us so we can control the traffic a little bit,” said Lang. We do it with a whole bunch of staff, campus partners, faculty and volunteers.”

Here is a breakdown of all the important dates for each university:

University of Waterloo
– Orientation week: Sept 2-9
– Classes begin Sept 6
– Move-in days: Aug 31 to Sept 3

Wilfrid Laurier University

– Orientation week: Sept 4-9
– Classes begin Sept 7
– Move-in days: Sept 1st to 3rd

University of Guelph

– Orientation week: Sept 1st to 10th
– Classes begin Sept 7th
– Move-in days: Sept 1st and 2nd
