It’s a packed itinerary at the annual Association of Municipalities Ontario conference in London.
It includes Ontario Big City Mayors (OBCM), key cabinet ministers and an expected appearance by Premier Doug Ford.
The four-day event will look at several important topics to help Ontario communities succeed.
Monday opens with words keynote speaker Catherine McKenna, Former Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada.
Attendees will also hear from Leader of the Official Opposition and NDP Marit Stiles, Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney and Ontario Regional Chief Glen Hare.
Some of Monday’s sessions include a Cyber Security Knowledge Exchange, a discussion about how building permit processes can be streamlined and a look at Ontario’s goal to be fully accessible by 2025.
There are multiple big topics on the itinerary for Tuesday as well. The day includes discussions titled Evolving Provincial Housing Framework and Ontario’s Broadband Rollout. There will also be a lecture from the Council of Ontario Universities, offering those in attendance solutions to address housing challenges.
On Wednesday, the focus shifts to understanding and addressing the homelessness crisis.
An OBCM meeting preceded the conference. Mayor of Kitchener Berry Vrbanovic thanked The PLACE Centre in a tweet for the housing report they provided for the meeting.
Thank you to @MikePMoffatt and @place_centre for this informative report on housing as @ONBigCityMayors head into this weekend’s @AMOPolicy conference where building more housing faster & other municipal issues will be a big part of the discussion with @Ongov leaders! https://t.co/pplexXksD8
