The 2023 Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic happening on Saturday

The 2023 Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Tournament will be taking place in the parking lot of Medical Centre 2 this Saturday.

The event will raise money for child cancer care at Grand River Hospital. It is named after Scotland “Scottie” Santos, who was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer when she was three months old.

Ben Chiarot, a defenceman with the Detroit Red Wings, said his wife Jacqueline are close friends with the family. The Chiarots have a daughter the same age as Scottie. Chiarot originally played for the Guelph storm from 2007 to 2010.

“It kind of touches everybody it’s for our community the money that it’s raising,” said Chiarot on the Mike Farwell Show on Thursday. “So I think when something touches close to home guys are pretty quick to jump up and support.”

Jacqueline Chiarot, Co-chair Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic, and member of the Grand River Hospital Foundation’s board.

Along with road hockey, there will be a beer tent and food trucks. An online auction will be selling off signed jerseys, sticks and photos and a rookie card of Paul “Biz Nasty” Bissonnette.

The top youth team will win an autograph session and professional photos with special guest players at the event. The top adult team wins four tickets to a Detroit Red Wings home game of their choice for the 2023-24 season.

Last year’s event raised over $315,000.
