University of Waterloo ranks in top 25 computer science schools globally

When it comes to developing tech talent, the University of Waterloo (UW) continues to shine.

A recent ranking conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds, a United Kingdom company that provides education analytics, listed the top 25 computer science schools worldwide and had UW 22nd. That means the University of Waterloo is in the top 1.7 per cent of the 1400 universities scored on things like academic and employer reputation.

However, where UW ranks highest is in enrollment numbers. Of the top 25 schools, UW ranks first with 4,790 students are enrolled in computer science and computer engineering at UW. The next closest school in the world is The National University of Singapore, with just under 4,400 students.

These results have delighted the Mayor of Waterloo.

To put the 4,790 students in perspective, both Silicon Valley and the UK are world-renowned for developing tech talent, but UW actually has more undergraduates students than the California schools combined and the UK schools combined.

This is line with the city’s ranking against other small markets in North America. Waterloo has been ranked the number one Small Tech Talent Market for three years running.
