Police report numerous fireworks violations during Canada Day weekend

By Mark Douglas

Waterloo Regional Police report more fireworks violations than impaired driving charges over the Canada Day long weekend.

For July 1 and 2 combined, police report six impaired operation offences.

And between June 29 and July 2, there were sixteen by-law complaints and reports of dangerous conditions related to fireworks.

There were no major incidents reported in the fireworks by-law infractions.

These are separate from the assault with a weapon charges laid against four youths for allegedly shooting fireworks at bystanders in Victoria Park in Kitchener, on Canada Day, Saturday.

For now, police are not breaking down how many by-law infractions were reported in which cities.
