ION train service resumes after crash

A collision led to an ION train service disruption on Tuesday afternoon.

Grand River Transit announced shortly before 3:30 p.m. that ION trains were not running between the Willis Way/Waterloo Public Square and Grand River Hospital stations.

ION replacement shuttle buses were made available between the Laurier/Waterloo Park and Grand River Hospital stations during the disruption.

LRT service was also reduced to one track between Laurier/Waterloo Park and Willis Way, as well as between Grand River Hospital and Central Station.

Waterloo Regional Police later confirmed the disruption was caused by a collision involving an ION train and a vehicle in the King Street South and Allen Street area.

According to GRT, the ION train service disruption ended around 5:30 p.m.
