Welcome to Pride Month 2023!
Progressive Pride flags are being raised across Waterloo Region to show support and celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

In Woolwich Township, a flag raising event was held Thursday at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira.
“It is our collective responsibility to seek equality and inclusion for every marginalized group,” said Mayor Sandy Shantz in a release.
“It starts with each of us, being allies and advocates for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. Raising the Pride flag signifies that we not only see them and hear them, but also, that we stand with them. It’s a powerful symbol of unity and solidarity.”
We are #WoolwichProud to support our 2SLGBTQ+ community, and we thank all who attended our first Woolwich Pride Flag Raising Event! #InclusiveCommuinities #Pride #PrideMonth@TimLouisKitCon @woolwichpride23 pic.twitter.com/pB4PJlw5b8

The City of Waterloo released a statement on Pride Month earlier this week, noting, “There are numerous upcoming events where folks from these communities and their allies will celebrate the progress achieved towards the same basic human rights as those held by straight, cisgender people. It is also a time to acknowledge the ongoing and escalating harm faced by these communities because of homophobia and transphobia, which are so closely connected to colonization.”
Waterloo Regional Police say they will also once again fly a Pride Flag at their headquarters. That is expected to happen around 10:30 Thursday morning.
