Two public schools in Kitchener were briefly under hold and secure on Wednesday afternoon.
That information was provided by the Waterloo Region District School Board on social media shortly after 12:30 p.m.
The board said the hold and secures were in place at Janet Metcalfe Public School and Jean Steckle Public School.
A notice said, “Students continue learning in class, as the concern is outside of the school building, and many school routines remain in place.”
Waterloo Regional Police Service said in an email statement to CityNews Kitchener that the measure was put in place as officers conducted an investigation in the area.
“We are investigating an incident in the area of Huron Road and Trussler Road in which subjects fled on foot. Officers in the area are searching for outstanding parties. This incident is not related to the schools, which were placed into a hold and secure as a precaution.”
Providing an update shortly after 1 p.m., the Waterloo Region District School Board said both hold and secures had been lifted, as they thanked police for their work in keeping students and the school community safe.
