Motorists may need to begin planning alternate routes for their commutes through Kitchener, as the Region of Waterloo is warning of some upcoming road work and rotating closures.
The region warns that work will take place between May 23 and 26, bringing closures to Ottawa, Weber and King streets as well as some area side streets.
You can review the proposed schedule for that work below:
- Day 1: Ottawa Street, highway ramps to Rosedale Avenue – one-way traffic maintained from ramps to Weber Street only.
- Day 2: Ottawa Street, Rosedale Avenue to Charles Street East – full road closure
- Day 3: Weber Street, Ottawa Street North to Borden Avenue – full road closure
- Day 4: Weber Street, Sheldon Avenue to Ottawa Street North – full road closure, and segments of Ottawa Street North and King Street will have lane closures.
Those roadways are expected to be closed only for a short time during asphalt application, though the duration of work is dependent on weather conditions and progress made by crews.

Signs will be posted for motorists in impacted areas in advance of daily closures.
Line painting work is also expected to occur between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily, though the region notes that roads will remain open for that work.
Staff on site during asphalt work will coordinate with school crossing guards to ensure pedestrian and student safety.
Starting May 23 through May 26, there will be rotating closures in @CityKitchener on Ottawa, Weber, and King streets, and area side streets for asphalt work. These roads will be closed for a short time while the asphalt is applied. Read more: https://t.co/59VBItxm2P pic.twitter.com/TUMVQpSAiO
