The province says it’s taken another big step toward making two-way, all-day GO train service between Kitchener and Union Station a reality, but offers no updated timeline.
The Government of Ontario is celebrating the completion of infrastructure improvements at the Bramalea GO station in Brampton which include a new accessible station building, a parking garage with room for more than 2,000 vehicles, and a new bus loop.
In a release, the province said the improvements are also critical in supporting future two-way, all-day GO train service along the Kitchener Line, though it did not offer anything further as for when that service may exist.
“With an estimated 12,200 daily riders using Bramalea GO by 2041, this station is a key transit hub for families, commuters and businesses in Brampton and across the Greater Golden Horseshoe,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “Building Ontario through critical infrastructure projects like the new and improved Bramalea GO station is part of our government’s plan to improve transit, while unlocking access to more jobs and housing.”
“This is great news for everyone who relies on the Kitchener line to get where they need to go.” said Mike Harris, MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga. “Through the continued work of this provincial government, commuters will continue to see important improvements that will offer better service and more flexibility between Union Station and Kitchener in the future.”
It’s been nearly a decade now since the province first promised two-way, all-day GO trains running between Kitchener and the Greater Toronto Area and this week’s update offers no further information as to when the wait may be over.
Most recent estimates have suggested the service could be up and running by 2025 or 2026, though those estimates are also now more than two years old.
