On May 1st the campaign will kick off to raise funds in support of Cystic Fibrosis research.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited genetic disease that campaign organizer Mike Farwell has experienced on a personal level.
“It’s a cause that is very near and dear to my heart, two of my sisters died from Cystic Fibrosis. So I do this annual fund raising campaign in their memory and to raise money so we can continue to do cutting edge research.”
Entering it’s 10th year the fund raising effort has generated over $1 million and in the last four years a 50/50 draw has been a part of the initiative.
This year however, the campaign is getting an extra boost.
“What make’s this one different is that it has the full support of all of our Rogers Kitchener radio stations, meaning CityNews 570, Country 106.7 and CHYM 96.7 are also getting involved. So I kind of feel like my radio family is behind me with the 50/50 draw this year.”
Farwell added, the additional support will help generate more funds than possible previous years.
“There’s a real opportunity here for this 50/50 draw to be the largest draw that this community has ever seen. When I think about accomplishing something like that it’s gets me pretty excited because it means Cystic Fibrosis research will get a lot of money.”
