New Hamburg resident among those charged in $198M cocaine bust

A New Hamburg resident is one of three people charged after a $198 million cocaine bust by the RCMP.
The investigation was launched in the fall of 2021. It was after the Canada Border Services Agency received information about exported shipments originating from Central America.
A marine shipping container, filled with 1.5 tonnes of cocaine, was traced back to a Brantford resident, who allegedly imported the drugs to New Brunswick from Central America.
The drugs, attempted to be hidden by industrial machinery, were seized by officers in Saint John, New Brunswick in January 2022.
Search warrants were executed this week by officers with the Kitchener RCMP detachment, as well as Brantford Police.
42-year-old Adam Kaup of New Hamburg is charged with unlawfully importing cocaine and conspiracy to import cocaine. The accused is scheduled to appear in a Brantford court on Friday.
Two men from Brantford have also been charged.
