14 inmates at women’s prison in Kitchener test positive for COVID-19

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Fourteen inmates at the women's prison in Kitchener have tested positive for COVID-19. That information was provided by Correctional Service Canada (CSC) on Wednesday afternoon.

The cases are linked to an outbreak that was first declared on November 9. There have been more than 70 positive cases associated with that outbreak according to CSC's website, although most are deemed resolved.

The agency said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and that more cases may be detected due to ongoing testing and as more results are confirmed.

CSC said infection prevention and control measures are being followed to minimize any further spread; that includes enhanced cleaning and disinfection. COVID-19 vaccinations also continue to be offered.

Some regularly scheduled visits at Grand Valley may be affected due to the current situation.
