An arrest and charges have been laid following a fatal collision in Wilmot Township this fall.

The crash happened the evening of October 15 at Punkeydoodles Avenue and Oxford Road 5, and involved two vehicles.

One of the drivers, a 22-year-old woman from Wilmot Township was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old female, also from Wilmot, who was a passenger in that vehicle was transported to a hospital outside of the region with life-threatening-injuries.

A 19-year-old Oakville man, the other alleged driver, now faces a long list of charges including dangerous driving — causing death, dangerous driving — causing bodily harm, careless driving — causing death, careless driving causing bodily harm, speeding and stunt driving.

The accused is due in court January 20.

Safety concerns had been raised about the intersection before the fatal crash, and new stop signs with flashing lights were installed shortly after.

Oxford County is also doing a study which could lead to more changes at the intersection by 2026.
