Ager Hasan's trial has been postponed until January 2023.
A court official confirmed to CityNews, “The trial was adjourned on Tuesday of this week as a result of the accused discharging his counsel.”
Hasan was charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his former girlfriend, Melinda Vasilije, in Kitchener in April of 2017.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Hasan and the Hamilton man was ultimately taken into custody about two months later in Texas by members of the U.S. Secret Service.
Hasan was extradited back to Canada in early 2018. His trial was initially expected to begin in 2019 but has faced a series of delays.
