Kitchener-based Hacksmith creates Batman signal

By Mark Pare

Is this Waterloo Region, or Gotham City?

If you peered into the night sky recently, you may have gotten a glimpse of a light shining through the air with a bat symbol, much like you'd see in any of the Batman movies.

Kitchener-based Hacksmith Industries, the same research and development company that brought you a lightsaber or the world's brightest flashlight, have created a giant bat signal.

Their YouTube video has garnered over a million views since it was posted less than a week ago.

“It weighs over a thousand pounds, it projects 600,000 lumens, or the equivalent of about 12 IMAX projectors,” they said.

It takes you through the development stages, all the way through creation and testing, which it did in various locations in Kitchener, including in front of a couple movie theatres.
