Christmas is fast approaching, and to help get everyone in the Christmas spirit, Cambridge's Radha Krishna Mandir is delivering over 100 care packages to three shelters across Waterloo Region: oneROOF Youth Services in Kitchener, the Bridges Shelter in Cambridge, and A Better Tent City.
The packages include a wide range of goodies and hygiene products, such as “hats, gloves, hand warmers, socks, sanitizer wipes. Also, cereal, crackers, cough drops, shampoo, and Christmas treats,” said Prakash Narine, Outreach Coordinator for the Mandir.
Over the last few months, the youths of the Mandir have been finding different ways to help those in need. Most recently was its Diwali Outreach.
“The youths are taken by the impact that the little donation that they give can give so much, and that is continuously motivating them to want to do more,” Narine said.
“As Hindus, we believe a lot in helping others. It allows us to practice selfless service, especially during the holiday and the colder winters,” said Yashi Narine, a youth member at the Mandir. “We must give back to those who require these supplies, and we truly want to help make a difference and hope to improve some of these people's lives.”
“At Radha Krishna Mandir, we have built such a community. So, it is nice for us to have opportunities to give back to people less fortunate,” said Sujay Persaud, a youth member of the Mandir.
