Waterloo Region’s booking system for vaccine booster doses up and running

If you live in Waterloo Region, you won't have to wait until the weekend to book an appointment for a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The province announced on Wednesday that additional groups would become eligible for a booster shot effective Saturday.

“Waterloo Region has its own local appointment booking system so we're able to administer booster doses starting today,” said the region's Acting Vaccine Communications Lead, Sharon Ord, in an e-mail statement to CityNews 570.

Among those becoming eligible are Ontarians aged 70 and up, health-care workers, designated essential caregivers in congregate settings, and anyone who got two shots of AstraZeneca or one shot of the Janssen vaccine.

These individuals still have to wait the required 168 days after their second dose to receive a booster shot.

For those who can't make it out to a regional clinic, there is a home-based vaccination option and a request form has to be completed.

The region said plans are also underway to roll out mobile vaccination clinics to Indigenous residents. A release said, “An Indigenous immunizer is also available at the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic.”

Third doses will also be available through participating family doctors and pharmacies.
