Updated vaccination data has been released for both the Waterloo Region District School Board and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
The Ministry of Education is requiring immunization disclosure policies for all publicly-funded school board employees and other individuals who regularly visit those settings.
According to the public board, 87.4 per cent of employees and trustees have submitted their attestation so far. Of those, 93 per cent are fully vaccinated.
It means 12.6 per cent of staff have not submitted their attestation as of yet. That represents 1,226 individuals.
When you include all 9,717 staff members to which the policy applies, 81.2 per cent (7,892 individuals) have submitted proof of vaccination and 0.01 per cent (one person) provided a documented medical exemption.
That leaves a discrepancy of 598. A spokesperson with the WRDSB said that represents the number of individuals who are required to take an educational seminar. A request has been made for further clarification.
There are also 813 other individuals who frequently have contact with public school staff and students, like bus drivers. Of those, 63.6 per cent have provided proof of full vaccination, while 14.4 per cent said they were fully vaccinated but did not submit proof. One per cent, or eight individuals, provided a documented medical exemption. That leaves a discrepancy of 21 per cent.
According to the Catholic board, 91.1 per cent of WCDSB employees who have submitted attestation are fully vaccinated.
A further breakdown shows 91.5 per cent of the board's employees and trustees have submitted their attestation so far and 83.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Just 0.2 per cent submitted a documented medical exemption, and 8 per cent are not fully vaccinated and did not submit a medical reason.
There are also 804 other individuals who may have contact with Catholic students and staff. The data shows 78 per cent are fully vaccinated, 0.8 per cent submitted a medical exemption, and 21.2 per cent are not fully vaccinated with no medical reason.
