Kitchener neighbourhood urging motorists to slow down with lawn sign campaign

A lawn sign campaign is in full effect, as concerned citizens want to address speed in their neighbourhood.
In the Chicopee neighbourhood, residents are looking to have motorists slow down.
You'll start to see signs on lawns to lower your speed Friday, mainly on Grand River Boulevard, between Morrison and River Road.
David Barker, the coordinator of the lawn sign campaign, told 570 NEWS the road is wide, and people speed up to 65 kilometres an hour on this road.
“The limit, I think is 50, but I know last year we had a middle of the road sign indicating that the speed limit was actually 40,” he said.
“We don't have that this year, so we really don't have any means to get people to slow down a little bit.”
Barker said that's when they went with a lawn sign campaign, seeing as how it is the best thing that they can do with the resources they have.
He says that he found out CAA members can receive two free lawn signs that say “slow down.”
“So that's what I've been coordinating,” Barker added, “I'm a member of CAA, and a number of others are as well.
“I get one sign, and I get to put a sign on someone else's lawn as well. Basically, we decided that the lawn sign campaign was the best thing that we can do.”
Barker said he's never seen police enforcement on his street, and they had one mid-road sign last year reminding people of the speed limit.
“We were hoping that we'd see that mid-road sign again this year,” he said, “Our councillor tells us that it's a budget issue and I understand that.”
“But that would really help if we put one at each end, indicating that the speed limit is 40 kilometres an hour.”
