Kitchener Fire Department works to free person from elevator at Freeport Hospital

By Ben Eppel

Kitchener fire crews worked to free someone stranded in an elevator Monday evening.

Officials say it happened at Grand River Hospital's Freeport campus.

Pump Station 4 was the original responder, but Rescue 11 was called in to bring heavier, more elevator-specific tools.

The call was upgraded to an emergency, though that is standard practice if the caller says anything about being in distress. according to KFD.

The department says several of these calls are attended each year.

There's no word on the victim's status at this time.
