Waterloo Region library staff help with COVID vaccine appointments

By Nathan Shubert

Library staff across Waterloo Region have offered to assist with the online COVID-19 vaccine appointment system as adults 80-years-of-age and older will be getting their phone call in the coming days.

Staff from Kitchener Public Library, Waterloo Public Library, the Idea Exchange in Cambridge, and Region of Waterloo Library will be helping out to ensure that the more vulnerable older population, who has indicated they wished to be contacted via phone, is scheduled for immunization.

This past week, Waterloo Region began the vaccination process for the 80 and older group, as well as health care workers as part of the phase one distribution of the vaccine.

Additionally, to support the vaccine roll out in the more rural communities, staff from Waterloo Region Libraries have been helping out with community outreach and volunteer orientation.

Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief for Waterloo Region Police Service and Head of the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force said the task force is grateful for the support of staff from local libraries in helping reach the 80 and older age group. “We’re delighted that they can bring good news to older adults that it’s their turn to get the vaccine, and book their appointment.”

Adults 80 and older, who have not done so already, can book their immunization by either visiting the COVID pre-registration website or by calling 519-575-4400.

If you have any questions about the immunization process, call 519-575-4400, not the libraries.

Upon receiving vaccination, individuals are asked to continue to follow public health guidelines to not only protect themselves but everyone else – including wearing a mask and physical distancing.
