A Food Basics store in Kitchener is rolling out its pandemic protocol after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
METRO, who owns Food Basics, says they learned about the diagnosis on April 3.
The employee last worked on March 29 at the Ottawa Street and Lackner Boulevard location.
Since learning about the diagnosis, METRO says it has contacted Public Health to confirm the diagnosis, but has decided to begin their pandemic protocol out of precaution.
According to a news release, this protocol includes making sure the infected employee is in quarantine; immediately cleaning all surfaces and equipment the employee may have been in contact with; and, organizing a thorough and complete clean and sanitization of the store following Public Health recommendations.
Food Basics has also contacted its employees to alert them of the situation and has checked in with the infected worker to make sure they are okay and are receiving proper treatment.
METRO says they are continuing to communicate with Public Health to determine their next course of action.
