A Kitchener manufacturer is part of a Health Canada recall for its snow removal equipment due to a risk of lacerations and fractures.

MTD Products Ltd. built snow removal products for the brands Yardworks,Yard Machines, MTD Yard Machines and Troy-Bilt  300 Series 2 Stage Snow Throwers.

Health Canada says these products were distributed to multiple retailers in Ontario, including Home Depot, Rona Home Hardware and Canadian Tire, and were sold between July 2004 to March 2006.

According to Health Canada, over 15,000 of these models sold were made with plastic wheel rims, which can burst if the product's tires are over-inflated.

As of December 17, 2019, 36 injuries have been reported with these products.

Health Canada says the rims come in red, green, black or gray.

Owners who suspect their product is affected by the recall can check the model number located on the snow blower's rear frame.

MTD says consumers who have the affected product can contact them for a free set of replacement wheel rim assemblies made of steel.
