A local virtual reality arcade is encouraging you to come spend your entire day playing video games.
The twist is that it's all for a good cause.
Ctrl V, based in Waterloo, is hosting its fourth annual 24-hour virtual reality marathon.
“There is an event called Extra Life which is not specifically related to VR, its in support of the Children's Miracle Network. Basically the idea is to play any type of game for 24 hours straight and raise money for the charity,” said Ryan Brooks, the Co-founder and CEO of Ctrl V.
Brooks said he also has a personal connection to the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, which is one of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, “My brother was a patient there when he was born, he was there for a couple of months.”
The VR marathon runs from 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, and continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Brooks said if you haven't done it before, VR really is for everyone, “I think people are really apprehensive, they think it's for gamers and it's quite the opposite. My mom is in her 60s, and my parents play VR once a week – and its not just because I own the company, they actually enjoy it.”
He's encouraging everyone to get involved as there is still time to register online.
If you are looking to make a donation, you can make one in person at 170 Columbia Street in Waterloo or through the Extra Life website.
