Kitchener South-Hespeler MPP Amy Fee is facing assault charges in connection with a pair of alleged domestic incidents at her Kitchener home.
Fee's lawyer Brennan Smart says one incident happened in September, where she allegedly threw a telephone that may have hit the top of Stephen Craig Fee (her husband)'s foot.
Smart said the second happened October 5, where she is alleged to have thrown a box lid at her husband.
“The police came on the Saturday night, and she spoke freely and openly with the police and truthfully,” said Smart. “The police at the scene said, 'We have no grounds to charge you.'”
Smart explained that the investigation was reopened days later.
“Usually police can form grounds when they're at the scene and they receive the information,” said Smart. “When they choose not to form grounds, what they're saying is, 'No offence was committed.'”
Stephen Craig Fee's lawyer Iain Sneddon also commented on the case, saying that it was Amy who called the police when she allegedly threw a box.
“It was not a cardboard box, it was a box that had metal on it, and hit Craig in the face,” alleged Sneddon.
Meantime, Premier Doug Ford's press secretary issued the following statement to 570 NEWS:
“Amy Fee is a very important member of our caucus and we support her. We ask that her and her family's privacy be respected during this time.”
