Construction is in the works to create a new pedestrian crossing between bus and train platforms at the ION Fairway station.
John Cicuttin, Manager of transit development with Grand River Transit joined Kitchener Today with Brian Bourke on 570 NEWS.
He said that changes are necessary.
“We saw a lot of folks that were walking on the roadway between the platform for the train and the bus, and we knew that was a result of this missing crosswalk, so that just confirmed initial thinking on the need for it.”
Cicuttin says they are adding in a bus shelter as well.
“There is quite a distance between one end of the light rail platform and the other and we want to provide more shelter near the mall. That is something that we learned watching folks wait as buses arrived, this will help during inclement weather.”
Also on the docket to be added is a bike shelter.
The improvements are slated for this year, with the crosswalk set to be completed by mid-October.
