New parking penalty system scheduled to begin in Kitchener and Waterloo

The city of Kitchener and Waterloo will be implementing a new system for resolving parking penalties.
On June 3rd the new Administrative Monetary Policy System (AMPS) will be introduced to replace parking tickets with penalty notices.
Under the new system, people charged with a parking penalty can visit the Kitchener by-law enforcement office on 33 Ontario Street to speak to an officer to seek a resolution.
If the resolution is not satisfactory, the person can request to have the matter appear before a hearing officer.
Hearings are scheduled monthly with decisions made by hearing officers being final and binding.
'The new system will be more efficient and more user friendly, while maintaining the fundamental principles of open court and due processes.' says Shanye Turner, director of by-law enforcement for the City of Waterloo in a release.
'In addition to being open, transparent and objective, the new process is less intimidating and will expedite the adjudication of parking penalties in both cities.'
The new system is expected to reduce wait times for parking issues from eight or nine months, to an estimated two or three months.
