Jim Hallman named Citizen of the Year

By Blair Adams

A man of many hats has been named as Kitchener-Waterloo Citizen of the Year for 2018.

Jim Hallman is a businessman, philanthropist, community leader, mentor, sports enthusiast, volunteer and family man.

Hallman says he is deeply humbled by the award. “Creating a supportive community for our friends and neighbours has long been a priority for our family. My grandfather taught my father who in turn mentored his children to give back, something that I hope I have instilled in my children too.”

Hallman is the president of Hallman Construction Limited, chair of the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation and the local fastball scene has benefited from his generosity as well. He has supported the Kitchener Hallman Twins, International Softball Congress World Tournament, the annual Peter Hallman Memorial Fast Pitch Tournament and the Peter Hallman Ball Yard.

“One of the things that we do strive with our foundation is to be innovative and really make a difference, especially with children and families.” Hallman told 570 NEWS.

“It’s hard to believe that Jim hasn't already received this award, given his incredible community support,” added Dr. Jack Bishop, Citizen of the Year Committee Co-Chair.

This is the 62nd year The Lions Club of Kitchener has presented the award.

Hallman will be recognized at a gala on Thursday, May 23 at the Crowne Plaza in Kitchener.

Tickets are $125 and can be purchased online at www.lionsclubofkitchener.com or by contacting Dr. Jack Bishop at (519) 575-6184.
