Mississauga man arrested in motel barricade incident in Guelph

Guelph police are revealing more details about the arrest of a man who barricaded himself in a motel.

Police say a vehicle was driving without a rear plate and was running through multiple red lights at a high rate of speed.

It was then just after 4:00 am where police were called to the motel on Woolwich Street and Marilyn Drive after reports of a man with a knife outside of a room. 

It was also reported to police that there was a man chasing another man with a gun in the area of Speedvale Avenue and Woolwich.

It turns out, both incidents were related.

Police finally arrested the man without incident.

John Abdel-Malek, 52,  of Mississauga has been charged with public mischief and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle among other charges.
