The beat truly does 'go on and on' for a local music staple, as it's still going strong nearly 30 years after opening.
John Rocchetta is President of The Beat Goes On, and says they have some exciting news this August.
“We've been in the area for nearly 28 years now, our humble beginnings were at Stanley Park Mall in Kitchener back in 1991. We've slowly grown over the years – now, we have nine units across southern Ontario – and we are now moving into our largest location, and relocating in Waterloo.”
Rocchetta says the move is based on consumer demand – both in-store, and online.
“Our current locations on Highland Road and in Waterloo were simply too small – so we purchased a new building in Waterloo, and are now able to open our largest retail here and amalgamate our two retail stores under one roof. We now have almost 30 to 40 per cent more inventory too, and can expand certain lines like LPs and retro games.”
Live music will be a big part of the new 'mega location' as well – as Rocchetta says they're trying to bring that 'old record store feel' back to our community.
“We've got sort of a stage area set up, and we'll have live music playing throughout the week. There's lots of room to browse, lots of room to hang out – it's just about bringing that old school vibe back, and having a place where people can enjoy hanging out, listening to music, and finding treasures.”
The grand opening for the new location at 341 Weber Street North is August 18.
“The event is coinciding with our Beat Goes On Anniversary Sale as well – so we'll have a big sale going on, plus our grand opening. There will be food trucks, bands, lots going on, and lots of people coming out.”
