This one has to sting for the Kitchener Rangers.
The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds scored two goals in the third period, including one with just two seconds left, and clipped Kitchener 4-3.
“I thought we did a lot of good things in the game,” said McKee. “I thought we had the start we wanted.”
The Rangers twice led by two goals against the CHL’s top team. But the Greyhounds showed why they’ve earned that honour battling back.
“We did a lot of video and we stressed their D are going to move pucks and step through,” said McKee. “We put a lot of onus on our forward group tonight. We had a couple breakdowns from our top guys, and that hurt us.”
The Soo’s 19th win in a row is in large part due to Keeghan Howdeshell’s two goals. He scored on the Greyhounds’ lone power play in the second and added the game-winner.
It’s only the second time this season the Rangers have lost when leading after two periods.
The Greyhounds look to make it 20 in a row Saturday in Guelph.
The Rangers try and go into the Christmas break on a winning note on Sunday when they host the Kingston Frontenacs. Pre-game on 570 NEWS at 1:30 p.m.
