SUV ends up in Grand River after crash on Bridge Street

A crash at the Bridgeport Bridge in Kitchener Tuesday afternoon ended with a car in the Grand River.
Regional Police say the two-vehicle crash happened just before 2:30 p.m.
Emergency crews arrived to find an SUV on its roof with pooled water around it.

Police say an 80-year-old woman has been taken to the hospital in stable condition, the driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Sergeant Stu Church tells 570 NEWS he believes that woman is in stable condition because of a few strangers acting quickly at the scene.
“Good samaritans who were in the area and witnessed [the crash] jumped into action and were able to assist the 80-year-old with getting out of the vehicle,” says Church. “They had to cut her seat belt to get her out, but as a result of that she is [now] in stable condition.’
‘If they hadn’t jumped into action when they did, I don’t know if she’d be with us today.”
