Ontario Government commits $1.5M to redevelopment of historic Elora Mill

The town of Elora is about to receive a major face lift worth more than $14-million.

The Elora Mill will be redeveloped as a year-round tourism destination, with a hotel, spa, and conference centre.

Guelph MPP, and President of the Treasury Board, Liz Sandals, says the province is chipping in $1.5-million for the project, creating 110 long-term tourism jobs.

She says it won’t just be the Elora Mill that benefits, but all the adjacent businesses are “going to get a shot in the arm from this development.”

Sandals says during a visit to the property today, she was particularly impressed with the renovation work so far.

And she highlights the yet-to-be-built glass covered pedestrian walkway across the river linking both halves of the redevelopment.

In a statement, Tory MPP, Ted Arnott says, “On behalf of the residents of Wellington-Halton Hills, I want to express my appreciation to the Government of Ontario for its support of Pearle Hospitality’s redevelopment of the Elora Mill Hotel and Spa, and adjacent properties.”

The Elora Mill was built in 1833 and operated as a gristmill for 141 years.

Phase One of the project, on the north side of the river, is expected to be completed next Spring; the entire project is expected to be completed in four years.
