Another year, another Waterloo apartment building not ready for students

As of this morning, 361 bedrooms in the University area of Waterloo are not ready for students.

This is the fourth year in a row that a major apartment building was not ready for the first week of school.

The City of Waterloo started a website this fall to track the number of rooms that have passed inspection and are ready for occupancy.

As of last week 1,490 rooms were still not ready for move in.

All but eleven of the current 361 rooms that are not ready are at one building– The Hub, located at 130 Columbia Street.

The building’s website says it would be ready for September.

Attempts to contact the developer were not returned.

The City of Waterloo launched the tracking website to help inform students about the status of their building.

The City, however, says it is not in their power to enforce move in dates, and any issues need to be brought up with a land lord.
