The City of Waterloo has seen 10 suspicious fires in less than two months.
That has community partners like Waterloo Fire Rescue and Regional Police on high alert, hoping to educate the public to make sure that number doesn’t jump to 11.
So, in order to make that happen, a community safety meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 7th at Albert McCormick Community Centre starting at 6:30 p.m.
The two hour event will include various presentations from WRPS and WFR, along with the Lakeshore North Neighbourhood Association.
Following the presentation, a question and answer period will take place.
Waterloo Fire Chief Richard Hepditch tells 570 NEWS what the goal of the meeting is. “It’s really to make sure we’re all on the same page and to share information. On top of that, it’ll be a good reminder for people to brush up on their fire prevention knowledge.”
Chief Hepditch says the meeting is needed, since communities in north Waterloo have been the target of most of those suspicious fires dating back to July 6th. “Of course there’s a heightened awareness since we’ve seen 10 suspicious fires in less than two months, but regardless, this meeting will help make sure we’re doing everything we can to prevent further fires.”
The meeting is opened to anyone that would like to attend.
Albert McCormick Community Centre is located at 500 Parkside Drive in Waterloo.
